Amazon IXD Cross-Dock Facilities (2026 Guide): Directory, FC Transfer Times & Planning Rules
An Amazon Inbound Cross-Dock (IXD) is, in Amazon's own words, a "facility where inbound shipments are received to be strategically consolidated and shipped to final destination at an FC" (US Prepaid Carrier Manual). In Amazon's IPEX Scheduled Fulfillment Center Address List (updated June 20, 2025), 57 of 292 US site codes carry the network type IXD, including LAX9, SMF3, CLT2, MDW2, FWA4, ABQ2 and ONT8.
If your shipment is routed to one, expect a second hop. Amazon staff tell sellers that FC transfers "may take up to 22 to 25 days", that units in transfer can be bought but are not Prime-eligible until they reach the destination FC, and that domestic restocks should be planned at least 30 days ahead. We found no public dataset that separates IXD from non-IXD receive-to-Prime time, so this guide does not publish a made-up "typical" number.
Last verified October 22, 2026 against Amazon's help pages, Seller Forums staff replies and the IPEX list. Method and corrections policy: Editorial Policy. Sources are listed at the end.
1. What Amazon Publishes About IXD Sites
Amazon does not publish a complete public registry of its buildings, but the IPEX list (the sites that take scheduled inbound freight) gives each US site's code, address, receiving shifts and network type. We tallied the 292 US rows ourselves; the IXD count of 57 and the total of 292 also match the independent tally by fbaprepfinder.

| Network type in Amazon's list | US sites | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Non Sort | 96 | Non-sortable / bulky handling buildings |
| Sortable | 88 | Standard-size storage and shipping FCs |
| IXD | 57 | Cross-docks: receive, consolidate and forward to a destination FC |
| Specialty | 21 | Category-specific buildings (the list marks several as Softlines) |
| XLFC | 19 | Extra-large buildings (the list marks several as AMXL) |
| Other labels (CXD, Global XD, AGL-FBA, unlabeled) | 11 | Not classified by Amazon on the list |
Two limits matter. The list is a June 2025 snapshot, so buildings may have opened or closed since. And it only covers sites that take scheduled freight: for example MEM1 and ATL6, which have pages in our directory, do not appear on it. Absence is not proof of closure; confirm the FC code printed on your own shipment plan.
2. Directory: Six IXD Hubs We Cover in Detail
Addresses and receiving shifts below are as printed by Amazon in the IPEX list. ZIP+4 values on our warehouse pages come from our directory and can differ from the ZIP printed by Amazon (for example MDW2: Amazon prints 60433-9642); deliveries are routed by the street address and your appointment, not by ZIP+4.
| Code | Amazon network type | Address (IPEX list) | Receiving shifts (IPEX list) |
|---|---|---|---|
| LAX9 | IXD | 11263 Oleander Ave, Fontana, CA 92337-7441 | Day 07:00-17:00, Night 19:00-06:00 |
| SMF3 | IXD | 3923 B St, Stockton, CA 95206 | Day 06:00-16:00, Night 18:00-04:00 |
| CLT2 | IXD | 10240 Old Dowd Rd, Charlotte, NC 28214-8082 | Day 08:00-16:00, Night 20:00-04:00 |
| MDW2 | IXD | 250 Emerald Dr, Joliet, IL 60433-9642 | Day 07:00-17:00, Night 18:00-05:00 |
| FWA4 | IXD | 9798 Smith Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46809 | Day 07:00-17:30, Night 19:00-05:00 |
| ABQ2 | IXD | 6251 Pioneer Trail NW, Los Lunas, NM 87031 | Day 07:00-17:00, Night 18:00-05:30 |
Receiving shifts are not appointment availability: you still need a slot in Carrier Central. Two nearby buildings are easy to confuse with the hubs above: ONT8 in Moreno Valley is also an IXD in Amazon's list, while MDW4 (201 Emerald Dr, Joliet) is a Specialty (Softlines) site, not a sortable FC next to MDW2.
All 57 IXD sites in Amazon's list, by state
| State | Sites | IXD codes (city as listed by Amazon) |
|---|---|---|
| CA | 15 | HLI2 (Hollister), IUSK (Perris), LAX9 (Fontana), LGB8 (Rialto), MIT2 (Shafter), ONT8 (Moreno Valley), POC1 (Fontana), POC2 (Ontario), POC3 (Jurupa Valley), QXY9 (Beaumont), SBD1 (Bloomington), SCK4 (Stockton), SMF3 (Stockton), TCY1 (Stockton), TCY2 (Stockton) |
| AZ | 5 | GEU2 (Glendale), GEU3 (Buckeye), GEU5 (Goodyear), GYR2 (Goodyear), GYR3 (Phoenix) |
| PA | 5 | AVP1 (Hazle Township), HEA2 (Breinigsville), HIA1 (Middletown), LBE1 (New Stanton), WBW2 (Olyphant) |
| IN | 4 | FWA4 (Fort Wayne), IND9 (Greenwood), MQJ1 (Greenfield), PPO4 (Merrillville) |
| FL | 3 | PBI3 (Port Saint Lucie), TMB8 (Homestead), XMI3 (Miami) |
| IL | 3 | MDW2 (Joliet), QXX6 (Joliet), RFD2 (Huntley) |
| NC | 3 | CLT2 (Charlotte), RDU2 (Smithfield), RDU4 (Fayetteville) |
| TX | 3 | FTW1 (Dallas), IAH1 (Houston), IAH3 (Houston) |
| VA | 3 | ORF2 (Chesapeake), RMN3 (Fredericksburg), XRI3 (Richmond) |
| GA | 2 | RYY2 (White), XCH2 (Garden City) |
| MD | 2 | HGR6 (Hagerstown), XLX1 (Hagerstown) |
| NJ | 2 | ABE8 (Florence), TEB9 (Somerset) |

| MS, NY, TN, WA | 1 each | XBN3 (Southaven), SWF2 (Hopewell Junction), BNA6 (Clarksville), PSC2 (Pasco) |
| NM | 1 | ABQ2 (Los Lunas) |
Do not infer a building's type from its city or size. In Amazon's list, AVP1 and GYR3 are IXDs, while LAS6 and STL4 are Non Sort. Check the type of your destination code before you plan lead time.
3. FC Transfer: What Amazon Says and What Sellers Report
"FC transfer" is the status for units that were received and are being moved to another fulfillment center so they sit closer to customers. It is not limited to IXD buildings: an Amazon staff reply in this thread says that after units are received "they may be transferred to other fulfillment centers so they can be closer to customers". Here is what we could source:
| Claim | Source | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Transfers "may take up to 22 to 25 days"; some take longer (e.g. weather) | Amazon staff replies in Seller Forums: Demystifying Reserved Inventory, FC transfer take 2 weeks? | Amazon statement |
| Units in FC transfer are available for sale, but customers "might be shown a future ship date" | Inventory Ledger vs Reserved: FC transfer (Amazon staff) | Amazon statement |
| Units in FC transfer "cannot be eligible for Prime delivery" until they reach the destination FC | FBA Inventory Available but Not Prime Eligible (Amazon staff) | Amazon statement |
| Plan domestic shipments "at least 30 days" ahead and allow up to 22-25 days for transfer after receiving | Same thread (Amazon staff tip) | Amazon guidance |
| If still transferring after 25 days, open a case with the shipment ID | Same thread (Amazon staff) | Amazon guidance |
| "2 weeks for FC transfer almost never happened. Usually at least 3 weeks, sometimes 4" (outside peak season) | One seller's reply in the "FC transfer take 2 weeks?" thread | Anecdote, not data |
What we could not find: any published figure for IXD-specific transfer time, or evidence that a shorter number (such as "5 to 14 days") applies in general. Treat 22-25 days as Amazon's stated upper window, not a typical value.
4. A Planning Model: How Many Days Without Prime Eligibility?
Because units in transfer sell without Prime (usually with a later ship date) rather than disappearing, the right question is not "will I stock out?" but "for how many days will my Prime-eligible stock be zero?"
Definitions. C = days of Prime-eligible cover left when you dispatch. D = days from dispatch to receipt (carrier transit plus check-in). T = FC transfer window after receipt. Prime gap in days = max(0, D + T - C).
Illustrative values (our assumptions, not Amazon data): D = 5, T = Amazon's stated 22 and 25 days.
| Prime-eligible cover at dispatch (C) | Prime gap if T = 22 | Prime gap if T = 25 |
|---|---|---|
| 10 days | 17 days | 20 days |
| 20 days | 7 days | 10 days |
| 30 days | 0 days | 0 days |
| 35 days | 0 days | 0 days |
The break-even is C >= D + T: with the assumptions above that is 27 to 30 days, which lines up with Amazon staff's "plan at least 30 days ahead" tip.
Worked example (hypothetical SKU). 120 units/day, $10.64 contribution margin per unit, C = 10, T = 25 so the Prime gap is 20 days. While non-Prime, assume you keep a share r of normal sales. Amazon does not publish r, so test a range: lost units = gap x 120 x (1 - r).
| Share of normal sales kept while non-Prime (r) | Lost units over 20 days | Lost contribution margin |
|---|---|---|
| 0% | 2,400 | $25,536 |
| 30% | 1,680 | $17,875 |
| 60% | 960 | $10,214 |

Decision rules that follow from the model
- If cover comfortably exceeds
D + T, the transfer window is covered by stock you already hold, and a minimal split (single destination) is a reasonable way to simplify freight. The per-unit fee for that choice is in our Inbound Placement Fee guide. - If cover is short, no routing choice is documented to remove FC transfer. Amazon's own suggestion in the same staff thread is Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD), which replenishes Prime-ready FCs; also check the destination Send to Amazon assigns you before you ship.
- Optimized splits send units to several destinations near demand. Amazon does not promise that this avoids a later transfer, so do not model it as zero-transfer.
5. Dock Appointments and Pallet Rules at Amazon FCs
These are carrier rules from Amazon's US Prepaid Carrier Manual (the PDF we checked carries 2024 dates; Carrier Central and your appointment instructions take priority):
- On-Time Arrival (OTA): a carrier should arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before and no later than 30 minutes after the Scheduled Arrival Time (SAT).
- No Call No Show (NCNS): an Inbound Shipment Appointment (ISA) can be deleted when the carrier has not arrived within 60 minutes of SAT.
- Pallets: stackable pallets are built to 49 in (44 in of freight plus 5 in of pallet) and must not exceed 1,500 lb; non-stackable but clampable pallets can be built up to 98 in; non-stackable and non-clampable pallets are capped at 72 in including the pallet.
Late arrivals are tracked as carrier performance (OTA and NCNS), and Amazon may refuse non-compliant loads. Amazon's inbound defect fee page lists misrouted, deleted, abandoned and incomplete shipments as its triggers; the 2026 amounts are in the placement fee guide.
6. This Month's Industry Context (October 2026)
- Savannah: Supply Chain Dive reported on October 19, 2026 that the Georgia Ports Authority received US Army Corps of Engineers approval (announced October 14) for a $2.3 billion, 350-acre, 3.5 million TEU Savannah Container Terminal. Construction is set to start in January 2028 and finish in the mid-2030s, after which the port expects a 12 million TEU annual capacity. It does not change 2026 routing; it is a multi-year signal for Southeast import planning toward sites such as CLT2 in North Carolina.
- 3PL scale: FreightWaves reported on October 21, 2026 that Stord acquired AMS Fulfillment (nine-figure price, 10 warehouses, nearly 1.3 million sq ft across Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Philadelphia, network of more than 100 owned and partner locations). AMS serves direct-to-consumer brands, so whether any 3PL handles FBA prep and forwarding is something to confirm with that provider, not assume.
7. Pre-Shipment Checklist
- Look up the destination FC code on your shipment plan in the table above or in the US Amazon Warehouse Directory. If it is an IXD, apply
C >= D + Tbefore you commit to the restock date. - Book the appointment in Carrier Central and brief the driver on the ±30 minute arrival window.
- Build pallets to the manual's height and weight limits before dispatch.
- Ship to the location(s) on the approved plan: misrouted, deleted or incomplete shipments carry a per-unit inbound defect fee ($0.32 to $5.72 depending on size and weight for shipments created on or after January 15, 2026).
- Compare the placement fee for your size and weight band against the extra freight of a multi-destination plan using the fee guide.
- Explore other regions: California, Illinois, Indiana and New Mexico hubs are listed in our state directories.

Corrections log. October 22, 2026: replaced an earlier "5 to 14 business days" FC transfer figure, which we could not source, with Amazon's stated 22-25 day window; removed an "RXD" facility tier (not a network type in Amazon's list); corrected AVP1 (IXD, not a bulky FC), ONT8, LGB8 and SBD1 (IXD) and MDW4 (Specialty); removed per-hub transfer durations and "downstream FC" lists we could not source; rebuilt the replenishment model to reflect that units in transfer remain purchasable.
